Launch meeting of the LMC media tour

Journalists from Lancang-Mekong countries started a media tour in Siem Reap, Cambodia on April 14, to celebrate the Angkor Sangkranta festival.

Angkor Sangkranta is an annual cultural festival taking place during Khmer New Year around mid-April. It is a vibrant event showcasing Cambodian cultural heritage such as traditional dances, music performances, parades, games and exhibitions.

Supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund, the project of 2024 China-CMLTV Journalists Visit to Angkor Sangkranta seeks to enhance mutual understanding, allowing journalists from Lancang-Mekong countries to look into Cambodia’s traditions, customs, and cultural legacy. During the visit, the media delegates will explore a range of historical and cultural sites. They will also engage with traditional game shows and events.

“This program is to bring journalists from countries along the Lancang-Mekong river together,” said Has Sam Ath, Under Secretary of State, Cambodian Ministry of Information. He added that the project also aims to facilitate a greater folk appreciation for the diverse civilizations thriving within the region.

Noting that this year marks the China-Cambodia Year of People-to-People Exchange as well as the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges, Lu Qizhi, Counsellor of Chinese Consular Office in Siem Reap, hopes that people-to-people exchanges in the region will be further promoted.

As one of the country’s most famous tourist destinations, Siem Reap province is seeking to attract more international tourists. The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport that went into operation last year is becoming a new driving force in this regard. “The airport is built to welcome tourists from all over the world,” said Samkol Sochetra, Deputy Governor of the province.
